Maruta Jaya Chartered for Tsunami Relief Mission First trip to remote islands to leave Jakarta April 1
[March 1, 2005] I have chartered the cargo vessel Maruta Jaya and will take control of her on March 25 or as soon thereafter as she has discharged her current cargo. Our first mission is scheduled to depart from Jakarta, Indonesia on April 1.
 | | The Maruta Jaya is a motor-assisted sailing cargo ship of 900 tons. Built in 1990 in Surabaya, Indonesia, she is 200-feet long, a beam of 38 feet, a draft 15.5 feet and carries 13,000 square feet of sail. |
In addition to providing transportation for International nonprofits, I'll be arranging shipment to Indonesia of 40-foot cargo containers sponsored by local grass roots organizations. The Windjammer Relief Effort will be accepting donations of food, clothing, tools, toys, educational supplies, etc. For more information and volunteer opportunities, visit our office at 6 Public Landing, near the Chamber of Commerce in Camden or call (207) 236-0675.
Ann and I are hosting the project's first fundraising event, a community gathering at the Camden Snow Bowl 4-8 p.m., Monday March 7. A barbecue, music and camaraderie will be shared rain or shine. Skiing, boarding, and tubing will be available, weather permitting. Participants are asked to donate to the Windjammer Relief Effort, but all activities are free. The facility is normally closed Mondays.
Anyone who would like to support this cause but cannot attend the gathering may send a tax-deductible donation to Camden National Bank, c/o Steve Staples, P.O. Box 310, Camden, ME 04843. Checks must be made payable to "Windjammer Relief Effort".
For more information or to make a donation via Visa or MasterCard, call our Maine Windjammer Cruises® office at (207) 236-2938 or (800) 736-7981.
